Grand opening of Rochdale’s pop-up cinema huge success
The town’s half-term pop-up cinema received a warm welcome from Rochdale families this week after opening its doors at Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre.
On Monday, 3 April, over 150 shoppers enjoyed the grand opening of the centre’s pop-up cinema with free movie screenings of fun family favourites, including Finding Dory and Fantastic Beasts.
Lorenzo O’Reilly, Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre manager, said the first day of the half-term cinema proved hugely popular. “We were delighted at the turnout on Monday,” he said. “This was the start of our week-long event, so it was great to it kick it off with two brilliant films.”
The centre’s first cinema, which is located next to Home Bargains, will play 14 films throughout the week at 11am and 2pm each day.
Every shopper, who spends in a Rochdale Exchange store until Sunday, 9 April will have the chance to enter the pop-up cinema for free. “For the rest of the week, all shoppers have to do is present their receipt to a steward with their name, postcode and which store they were shopping in,” he said. “That receipt will give shoppers the chance to pre-book or collect tickets on the day for a showing of their choice.
“The pop-up cinema will be at Rochdale Exchange for the rest of the school holidays, so we look forward to seeing everyone enjoy family films like Moana, The Secret Life of Pets and The Lego Movie.”
Rochdale Exchange shopper, Sarah Williams, said: “The cinema was brilliant. We came in to Rochdale today to check it out and were really impressed. It’s a great activity for the school holidays and my two children loved coming to see Finding Dory.”
*The special cinema will be open at Rochdale Exchange until Sunday, 9 April with showings at 11am and 2pm each day. To attend a screening shoppers need to present a receipt from any Rochdale Exchange store, dated after Saturday, 1 April, along with their details to the cinema team. A valid receipt entitles entry to up to two adults and two children or one adult and three children.
